Larch decking is factory-oiled on all sides for enhanced protection. Larch is naturally dense, hard, and resinous, offering excellent wear resistance, but its natural internal tension requires correct installation and good moisture management.

  • Expected Lifespan – Approx. 25–30+ years with proper installation, drainage, ventilation and regular maintenance.
  • Installation & Storage – Install boards promptly after delivery. Keep uninstalled boards flat, supported, strapped, and protected from direct sun and rain to minimise twisting or warping.
  • Annual Inspection – Check every spring for colour fading, surface dryness, fine cracks, resin, loose fixings and board movement. Minor surface checking is natural for larch.
  • Cleaning – Sweep regularly and clean with low-pressure water and a soft-to-medium brush. Never pressure wash or use aggressive cleaners.
  • Re-Oiling – Approx. every 2–3 years, or earlier in heavily exposed and high-traffic areas when visibly dry or faded.
  • Application – Clean and allow to dry for 24–48 h. Apply one thin, even coat of matching pigmented decking oil in the shade. Remove excess oil according to the oil manufacturer’s instructions and keep dry for at least 24 h.
  • Cut Ends & Resin – Oil all freshly cut ends, notches, and drill holes. Allow natural resin to harden before carefully removing it; touch up with oil if required.
  • Drainage & Exposure – Maintain proper spacing, drainage and airflow beneath the deck. Avoid standing water and persistently damp, shaded or poorly ventilated locations. For north-facing areas, a covered or well-drained installation is recommended.
  • Fixings – Use high-quality A4 stainless-steel decking screws. Secure boards correctly and periodically check for loose fixings or excessive board movement.
  • Hard & Scratch-Resistant – Larch is considerably harder and denser than spruce, so it handles everyday wear, scratches and dents much better. Ideal for busy terraces with frequent foot traffic.
  • Handles Heavy Furniture – Its dense, strong structure makes larch an excellent choice for terraces with heavy outdoor furniture, large tables, planters or other substantial loads, with less risk of visible dents and pressure marks.
  • Excellent for Humid Locations – Larch’s naturally resinous and durable structure makes it particularly well suited to demanding, moisture-rich environments – from forest properties and lakeside homes to coastal areas.
  • Lower Maintenance – The charred and oiled surface provides additional protection and helps maintain its rich appearance. Maintenance oiling is typically required around every 3 years, depending on exposure, use and local conditions.
  • Strong with Natural Character – Charring and brushing reveal larch’s pronounced grain and create a rich, robust texture. Seasonal movement, small surface checks and occasional resin can occur, but in return you get a harder, more durable terrace built for demanding outdoor use.
