Carbon Oak
OakEuropean Oak is dense, hard, and naturally durable, offering excellent dimensional stability and resistance to mechanical wear. Its high tannin content and density require particular attention to fixings, moisture, and oil application.
- Expected Lifespan – 40+ years with proper installation, ventilation and maintenance.
- Annual Inspection – Check yearly for colour fading, surface dryness, fine cracks, tannin staining and board movement. Minor surface checking is a natural characteristic of oak.
- Gentle Cleaning – Use low-pressure water and a soft brush. Never pressure wash or use aggressive alkaline cleaners, as they may damage the finish or cause discolouration.
- Cut Ends – Oil all freshly cut ends, notches, and drill holes during installation to reduce moisture absorption and end splitting.
- Re-Oiling – South & West: approx. every 8–10 years. North & East: approx. every 12–15 years, depending on exposure and surface condition.
- Application – Clean thoroughly and allow to dry for 24–48 h. Apply one very thin, even coat of matching pigmented maintenance oil along the grain, in the shade. Remove any excess oil and keep dry for at least 24 h.
- Tannins & Staining – Oak naturally contains high levels of tannins. Temporary tannin run-off may occur, especially when new. Avoid contact with ordinary steel and standing water, as these can cause dark staining.
- Fixings – Use high-quality A4 stainless-steel screws. Always pre-drill to reduce the risk of splitting the dense timber and damaging the fixings.
- Refined, Architectural Texture – Charring and brushing reveal oak’s dense grain and natural pores, creating a deep but refined relief. With fewer prominent knots, the finished facade feels clean, solid, and distinctly premium.
- Exceptional Hardness – Oak remains one of the hardest and most impact-resistant woods in our range, even after surface treatment. Its dense structure gives the finished cladding a substantial feel and excellent resistance to dents and everyday damage.
- Made for Decades – Naturally durable oak heartwood already performs exceptionally well outdoors. Charring and oiling add further surface protection, making properly installed and maintained oak cladding a long-term facade choice.
- Excellent Colour Retention – The charred surface combined with pigmented protective oil creates a deep, stable finish that ages slowly. Depending on UV exposure and facade orientation, the colour can remain attractive for many years, while maintenance oiling restores its original depth rather than requiring replacement.
- The Premium Choice – Oak is heavier, more expensive, and naturally moves with changing moisture; its tannins also require correct stainless-steel fixings. In return, you get exceptional hardness, longevity, low-knot character and one of the most sophisticated finishes in the range
