Scandinavian Thermo Pine is lightweight, soft, and exceptionally stable. Thermal modification greatly reduces moisture movement and resin, but makes the wood more brittle and sensitive to mechanical damage.

  • Expected Lifespan – 30+ years with proper installation, ventilation, and maintenance.
  • Annual Inspection – Check yearly for colour fading, surface dryness, micro-cracks, and mechanical damage. Seasonal movement and resin are typically minimal.
  • Gentle Cleaning – Use low-pressure water and a soft brush only. Never pressure wash or scrub aggressively, as the brushed surface can be easily damaged.
  • Cut Ends – Oil all freshly cut ends, notches, and drill holes during installation to protect exposed wood and reduce splitting.
  • Re-Oiling – South & West: approx. every 6–7 years. North & East: approx. every 8–10 years, depending on exposure and surface condition.
  • Application – Clean and dry for 24–48 h. Apply one thin, even coat of matching pigmented maintenance oil in the shade. Remove excess oil and keep dry for at least 24 h.
  • Surface Protection – Treat visible micro-cracks with oil. Avoid hard impacts, abrasion, and sharp objects, as Thermo Pine is softer and more prone to dents, chipping, and edge damage.
  • Fixings – Use A2 or A4 stainless-steel screws. Pre-drill near board ends and edges and avoid over-tightening, as thermally modified wood can split more easily.
  • Rich & Distinctive Texture – Pine has pronounced growth rings and natural knots. Charring and brushing deepen the softer grain, creating a bold, three-dimensional texture with a warm, premium character.
  • Excellent Dimensional Stability – Thermal modification significantly reduces the wood’s reaction to moisture, helping it swell, shrink and move less through changing seasons. An excellent advantage for exterior facades.
  • Low Moisture & Resin – High-temperature treatment reduces the wood’s ability to absorb moisture and removes much of its natural resin, greatly reducing the risk of sticky resin bleeding in hot sun.
  • Long-Lasting Facade – Thermal modification improves resistance to decay and biological deterioration. Combined with charring, oiling, proper installation and maintenance, Thermowood pine can provide a durable facade for decades.
  • Lightweight & Easy to Work With – Thermowood pine remains relatively soft and lightweight, making it easy to cut and install. Its softness also allows deeper brushing, while the thermal treatment makes the wood more brittle, so careful fastening is important.
