Inspired by natural teak, this finish enhances the texture of brushed Douglas fir while creating a warm, welcoming appearance. Its versatile tone pairs effortlessly with contemporary architectural materials.

European Douglas Fir is strong, stable and naturally durable. It is more flexible and less dense than larch, with generally fewer knots and resin-prone areas. Periodic care helps preserve its appearance and longevity.

Expected Lifespan – 25+ years with proper installation, ventilation and maintenance.
Annual Inspection – Check once a year for dryness, colour fading, resin, cracks, fixings, and board movement. Douglas Fir has good dimensional stability, although minor seasonal movement and surface checking are natural.
Gentle Cleaning – Use low-pressure water and a soft-to-medium brush. Never use a pressure washer, bleach, or aggressive cleaners, as these may damage the brushed surface and protective finish.
Cut Ends – Always oil freshly cut ends, notches, and drill holes during installation to reduce moisture absorption and end splitting.
Re-Oiling – South & West: approx. every 7 years. North & East: approx. every 9–10 years, depending on exposure and surface condition.
Application – Clean thoroughly and allow to dry for 24–48 h. Apply one thin, even coat of matching pigmented maintenance oil along the grain, in the shade. Brush out any excess oil and keep dry for at least 24 h.
Cracks & Resin – Treat exposed cracks with oil where needed. Occasional resin is natural; allow it to harden, carefully remove with a plastic tool, and touch up with oil if required.
Fixings & Movement – Use high-quality A2 or A4 stainless-steel screws to prevent corrosion and dark staining. Minor seasonal movement is natural; if warping or gaps become excessive, check and adjust the fixings.

Bold & Elegant Grain – Douglas Fir has strong, clearly defined growth rings and a warm natural character. Charring and brushing emphasize the grain, creating a deep, architectural texture with fewer, more distinctive knots.
Strong & Hard-Wearing – Denser and stronger than spruce and many common softwoods, Douglas Fir handles impacts and mechanical wear well, making it a robust choice for exterior cladding.
Naturally Durable – The heartwood has good natural resistance to decay and outdoor exposure. Combined with charring, oiling, proper installation, and maintenance, a Douglas Fir facade can perform for decades.
Strong with Natural Movement – Douglas Fir offers a good balance of strength and dimensional stability, but like all solid timber, it naturally expands and contracts with changing moisture. Proper drying, ventilation, and fastening are important.
Naturally Resinous – Its natural resin contributes to the wood’s durability, but occasional resin pockets or bleeding can occur, especially on dark, sun-exposed facades. In return, you get a strong, distinctive and premium-looking timber facade.
